An Extra Ordinary General Meeting of the Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh (APUB) took place on December 27, 2010 at 5.30 pm in the Chairman’s Board Room of Daffodil International University chaired by Mr. Abul Quasem Haider, Vice Chairman, APUB. 44 APUB members including Chairman & Vice- Chairman of Board of Governors and Trustee Board/Foundations of different Private Universities attended the meeting. It may be mentioned here that this for the first time the highest number of members participated in this Extra Ordinary General Meeting.
Daffodil International University celebrated its achievement of World Quality Commitment (WQC) Award-2010 today December, 21, 2010 at DIU Auditorium with gala program. Celebration program included Presentation and discussion.
Mr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Governors, Daffodil International University was present on the occasion as the chief guest. Presided over by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Aminul, the function was addressed by Professor Dr. Lutfar Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Science & ICT, Professor M. Shahjahan Mina, Advisor, FBE, Professor Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman, Dean, FBE, Professor Dr. Shusil Kumar Das, Dean, FHSS and Dr. Md. Fokhray Hossain, Registrar, Daffodil International University. Faculty members, high Officials and students of different department participated in the program with great enthusiasm.
It is mentionable that DIU is the only educational institutions in Bangladesh who achieved this award. Mr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Governors, Daffodil International University received this award from Jose E. Prieto, Chairman and CEO, Business Initiative Directions(B.I.D.) & President World Quality Commitment Convention during the 24th World Quality Commitment Convention on October 24 and 25, 2010.
The world quality commitment award is presented to each institution as an entity for corporate achievement, innovation, to recognize leadership, quality, excellence, technology; for this purpose a voting process was carried in Paris, London, Geneva, Frankfurt, Madrid, and New York over the past ten months based on one or several of the following concepts like The QC 100 principals, Customer/Audience Satisfaction, Leadership, Uses of Technology, Quality, Best practice, ISO 9000 and TMQ.
An outreach program “Creative Communication and ASIATIC 360” organized by Career Development Center (CDC) of DIU had been completed successfully with 25 participants from DIU. The two hours session held on 19th December 2010 from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm had been conducted by Mr. Farook Shams (Director, strategic Planning), Mr. Pakaz Ninad (HR Manager) and Ms Sara Zaker (Deputy Managing Director) of ASIATIC 360.
ASIATIC 360 is introducing most effective tools and techniques in business and social communication. DIU students were highly interactive during the session and attracted ASIATIC people effectively. Finally all participants visited different departments and projects for knowing by watching practically.
From the very beginning, CDC has been supporting students to grow with conceptual and experiential learning together. This wing of DIU encourages Faculty members and students for organizing events in regular basis beneficial to the students’ career development.
The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) of Daffodil International University organized a Film Show titled Freedom’s Spirit in Frame to celebrate the 39th anniversary of the country’s Victory Day. Three short Films related to our precious Liberation War named JoyJatra, Muktir Gaan and Stop Genocide were shown in the Film Show.
Earlier, Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University, Professor Dr. Aminul Islam inaugurated the Film Show as the Chief Guest. Presided over by Prof. Dr. Shakhawat Ali Khan, Adviser, Dept. of Journalism and Mass Communication the function was also addressed among others by Dr. Md. Fokhray Hossain, Registrar, Prof. Dr. Shusil Kumar Das, Dean, FHSS, Prof. Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Dean FBE, and Syed Mizanur Rahman, Coordinator, CDC of DIU. The function was conducted by Mr. Muhammed Rashedul Hasan, Lecturer, Department of Journalism And Mass Communication.

16th December is our VICTORY DAY, a Day of our National Pride and Contentment. Every year in this special day, we all remember with utmost respect the Great Hero’s who fought and devoted their lives for the Victory of our motherland, Bangladesh. In exchange of a sea of blood of our dear ones we have earned our Victory at 16th December 1971. Now to honor the lost souls who have contributed to bring this victory for us, for our nation we celebrate 16th December as our National Victory Day. The day is indeed full of memories, pride and joy at the same time for us and is very significant in the history of Bangladesh.
Daffodil International University celebrated the 39th anniversary of the country’s independence with gala program including placing wreaths at the National Memorial at Savar,Musical Soiree and publishing Wall magazine.
Daffodil International University authorities lead by Honourable Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Aminul Islam and accompanied by Professor Dr. Lutfar Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Science and ICT, Dr. Md. Fokhray Hossain, Registrar and Mr. Mominul Haque Majumder, Director (Finance & Accounts), Professor Dr. Shamsul Haque, Head, Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Akter Hossain, Head, CSE and other High Officials placed wreaths at the National Memorial at Savar in the early morning to pay glowing tributes to the martyrs.
To mark the day DIU Cultural Club organized a grand cultural program titled “Pure Culture, True Nature” at the university premises.
Faculty of Science and ICT, Dr. Md. Fokhray Hossain, Registrar and Mr. Mominul Haque Majumder, Director (Finance & Accounts),Professor Dr. Akter Hossain, Head, CSE, Mr. Mahbub Parvez, Associate Professor, FBE were present as the special guests. Conducted by Mr. Abu Taher, Associate Professor of FSIT, the members of the DIU Cultural club rendered songs.
Later Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Aminul Islam inaugurated a wall magazine titled “Bijoyer Parashmoni” published by DIU Cultural Club.

While addressing as the Guest of Honour Mr. Arthur Erken, UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh said, “human rights are closely interlinked with peace, development and democracy. They are inalienable and indivisible. No country or government can take them or suspend them on their own will. He stressed that we should put our best efforts to ensure all human rights for all, through our actions and not only by lip service.
In his speech Professor Aminul Islam said, In a time when we face challenges such as nuclear proliferation, climate change, transnational terrorism, food security risks, and pandemic disease, we must work as one to build a world we want to see in the 21st century. He addressed the importance of learning the human rights laws and our duties and added that we should reflect those in our life.
The theme of this year’s observance is “Speak up, Stop Discrimination”. UN Secretary General Ban ki-moon’s message on Human Rights Day-2010 was read out by Mr. Moniruzzaman, Reference Officer, UNIC, Dhaka.
In the Poetry session country’s renowned poets Asad Chowdhury, Shihab Sarkar and Muhammad Samad took part with their famous poems related to human rights.
At the end of the program, a short drama on Human Rights titled We Sing of Equality was performed by the DIU students.
