A team of three students from Japan had a visit to Daffodil International University Social Business Students Forum on 28 September 2013. Kazi Misu, President of SBSF made a presentation about SBSF over there, where Masud Ibn Rahman,Asst Professor & Head of Social Business Cell DIU conducted a workshop on Social Business through Social Business learning game .The game is developed by SBSF with the collaboration of MCC.

Faculty of Business and Economics of Daffodil International University holds 1st Reunion with colored program

Faculty of Business and Economics of Daffodil International University hold its first reunion of passing out graduates with great enthusiasm and day long gala events today on September 28, 2013 at DIU Auditorium. With spontaneous participation of Passing out graduates, faculty members and officers the program turned into a festive mood.

Mr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees of Daffodil International University and Chairman, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) was present in the program as the chief guest. Founder, Vice Chancellor and Emeritus Professor of Daffodil International University Dr. Aminul Islam inaugurated the program. Presided over by Mr. Masum Iqbal, Head, BBA Program and Convener, the function was addressed by Prof. Dr. M. Mizanur Rahman, Treasurer, Prof. Dr.M Zakir Hossain, Director (Studies), Prof. Rafiqul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Business and Economics, Prof. Dr. S.M. Mahabub Ul Haque Majumder, Dean, Faculty of Science and Information Technology, PROFESSOR Dr. Md. Fokhray Hossain, Registrar and Mr. Syed Mizanur Rahman, Director (Student Affairs), Mr. Manjurul Alam Jewel, President, DIU Alumni Association & Head, HR, Eastern Bank, Md. Nazrul Islam Helali, Chairman, Golden Trade International BD.

Addressing as the chief guest Mr. Md. Sabur Khan said, Alumni are the ambassador and identity of the university. Alumni can bring all the graduates under one community and network graduates will act as a strong platform through which junior students would be benefited and establish Unity, Compassion and Brotherhood among the graduates in a ground full of assistance and cooperation.

He said, Daffodil International University is always pioneer to introduce new course curricular like Art of Living for preparing competent graduates for job market. He also informed that the university is going to introduce extra ordinary course “Entrepreneurship and Leadership of BBA” for the first time in Bangladesh.

5000 Graduates from Daffodil International University are working in their professional life and many of them holding important positions in a diverse category of organizations; many are pursuing their career abroad, he added.

Student of NFE, DIU visited BCSIR Lab Chittagong & Rangamati Sub-station Research Center

Based on the R&D Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreement between BCSIR Dhaka and Daffodil International University a team comprising 24 students of 4th year 2nd batch of Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering, DIU visited BCSIR Laboratories at Chittagong and Sub-station Research center at Rangamati on 22nd and 23 June 2013 respectively. The team was guided by Dr. K.M. Formuzul Haque, Professor & Head, NFE and associated by a NFE Member Syed Noor Alam Co-ordination Officer.

On 22nd June 2013 at 7.0 a.m the whole group of students and teacher reached at BCSIR Guest House, Baluchora, Chittagong. On same day at 10.0 a.m. the students started their journey from Chittagong Guest House to BCSIR Sub-station Research Center at Rangamati. During this journey from Chittagong to Rangamati was very pleasant due to beautiful natural scenario hilly & Rubber garden both side of the road. At 12.0 clock they reached at Rangamati Sub-station center and took their lunch. After that they visited Medicinal plants and lemon grass oil extraction plant over there. At Rangamati the whole team also visited some attractive tourism places such as hanging bridge, Rangamati lake, Rajmoni Bihar, Buddhist Temple and 6 0 clock they again returned to BCSIR Guest House at Chittagong.

Next day on 23rd June, all the students reached at BCSIR Lab Chittagong and the Director BCSIR Lab Dr. Jaripha Begum welcomed all the students since they arrived at the office premises. The Director requested to make two groups among the students and assigned with them with two individual scientists for visiting the Lab. During their visit in BCSIR Lab Chittagong the students were visited the following Labs: such as (a) Food Toxicological analysis lab, (b) Modern Equipments Analytical Lab (this lab. Equipped with most modern and latest instruments which was funded by ADB Project such as High performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatography (GC), Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrophotometer Mass Spectrophtometer (LCMSMS), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), UV Spectro Photometer), (c) Extraction of Menthol from Mint plant, (d) Modern Microbiological Lab, (e) Extraction of Flavor Essence and oils from herbal plants, (f) Animal House for vivo study of the new product (rat, mice, guinea pig, rabbit), where animal breeding and new sample test feeding are being done. (g) Medicinal plants herbarium and herbal product development lab. In each Lab students were given demonstration by the expert scientists and the noted down all the necessary information in to note book.

End of the visiting Lab all the student were seated in the conference room and the Director BCSIR Lab Chittagong, Dr. Jaripha Begum addressed to the students of NFE, DIU and briefly described what activities are going on in BCSIR Laboratories Chittagong. Later on she concluded this program with some refreshments. On behalf of the Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering Dr. K.M.Formuzul Haque Professor & Head, thanked to the Director for giving this type of facilities for the students of NFE, DIU. Lastly, the Head of the Dept. handed over a DIU logo Crest to the Director of BCSIR Lab ctg. The Director BCSIR Lab was very happy and she showed her keen interest in future if the students of DIU desire to carry out joint Research Project or individual R&D works at BCSIR lab in Chittagong that BCSIR Lab Chittagong will give all sorts assistance and cooperation in this regard.

At 2 o clock after taking lunch at BCSIR Guest house the students again started their journey to see the Chittagong Vatiary Cantonment Lake and enjoyed the natural beauty over there. All the students reached at Potenga Sea Beach at 5 p.m. At 7.0 p.m. the students reached at Chittagong Rail Station for return to Dhaka. During this two days trip to BCSIR Laboratories Chittagong & Rangamati the students gained sufficient knowledge about Lab analysis, product development and animal feeding trial. The students and teacher in this Dept. of NFE are very grateful to the University authority for getting permission and financial assistance to make success the whole program.

Career Development Center organized Seminar on “Managing Your Career”

Career Development Center (CDC) of Daffodil International University organized a seminar titled “Managing Your Career” for fresh graduates on September 26, 2013 (Thursday) at 11.00 am at Sobhanbag Campus. Mr. Md. Hasanuzzaman Begh, HR Business Partner, Eastern Bank Limited conducted a session on Sales of Banking sector of Bangladesh. The seminar was presided over by Professor Rafiqul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Business and Economics, DIU. Prof. Dr. Md. Zakir Hossain, Director of Studies, Ms. Farhana Helal Mehtab, Head, Department of Law, Mr. Syed Maruf Reza, Coordinator of CDCand Mr. Masum Iqbal, Head of BBA Program attended the seminar and participated in this lively interactive discussion.

In the Seminar Eastern Bank Ltd. have also collected 50+ CVs from the student participants and declared to arrange a interview session at 1st week of October. Motivational Workshop for Creating 2000+ Entrepreneurs” by Mr. Sabirul Islam held at DIU

Daffodil International University (DIU) organized a “Motivational Workshop for Creating 2000+ Entrepreneurs” today on September 23, 2013 at DIU auditorium with the joint collaboration of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and Junior Chamber International (JCI).


The keynote speaker was Bangladeshi originated British citizen and one of the world’s renowned speakers Mr. Sabirul Islam, a global motivational speaker, an author of the bestselling books, a successful young entrepreneur and the founder of Inspire1Million.

Mr. Md. Sabur Khan, President, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), Chairman, BoT, Daffodil International University, was present as the chief guest. Prof. Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, Daffodil International University and Mr. Mostafizur Rahman Sohel National President, Junior Chamber International, Managing Director, Advanced ERP (BD) Ltd. were present as the Special Guest.

Addressing as the keynote speaker Mr. Sabirul Islam said, Inspiration is the key to all success and every people has a power himself to explore. Self value is very important to become a successful entrepreneur, he added. He urged the students to follow their passion and follow their dream and make them extra ordinary to become success in life.

He also said that he would continue his cooperation for the development of Bangladeshi young entrepreneurs and expressed his gratitude to be present such a program at Daffodil International University for the first time in Bangladesh.

Addressing as the chief guest Mr. Md. Sabur Khan, President, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) said, Bangladesh is a country where lot of peoples have the attitude to become entrepreneur as there is lack of employment opportunity. That’s why Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry has taken to create 2000+ entrepreneur to promote young entrepreneur.

He also said that lots of obstacles and challenges will be coming to become a successful entrepreneur. He urged the participants move to face the challenges themselves.

At the end of the workshop an interactive question and answer session were held where Mr. Sabirul Islam answered the questions of the students.A large number of students, faculty members and high officials were present at the program.

Seminar on “Education for Sustainable Development in Higher Education” held at Daffodil International University

Speakers at a seminar said that Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) allows every human being to acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values necessary to shape a sustainable future and it is the important part for overall development of the country as well as throughout the human habitat.

They also emphasized on Education for Sustainable development which requires participatory teaching and learning methods that motivate and empower learners to change their behaviors and take action for sustainable development. Education for Sustainable Development consequently promotes competencies like critical thinking, imagining future scenarios and making decisions in a collaborative way.

As a part of Education for Sustainable Development in Higher Education (ITP-2013) Department of Environmental Science and Disaster Management of Daffodil International University organized the Seminar on “Education for Sustainable Development in Higher Education” to building awareness for a Focus towards competency in sustainable development ideas and initiatives at Daffodil International University under auspices of Swedish International Development Agency –SIDA on Monday 16 September 2013.

Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, Honorable Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University was present at the seminar as the Chief Guest. Ms. QI ZHANG, Professor in Environmental Education Centre of East China Normal University attended the workshop as an International Expert on ESD in Higher Education, SIDA and presented the keynote paper. Dr. Aminul Islam, Founder Vice Chancellor and Emeritus Professor of Daffodil International University was present as the Guest of Honor. Mr. K M Hassan Ripon, CBT Expert and SIDA Fellow and Convener of the Seminar presented a paper on ESD in Bangladesh perspective.

DIU and DBI signed MoU

Daffodil International University (DIU) and DCCI Business Institute (DBI) signed MoU

Daffodil International University (DIU) and DCCI Business Institute (DBI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 09 September, 2013 at DCCI.  DCCI Secretary Mr. Bashir Haider and Registrar of Daffodil International University Dr. Md. Fokhray Hossain, Ph.D signed the MoU from their respective organization.

Under the agreement DBI and DIU will jointly operate short courses on Entrepreneurship Skills Development, Leadership Skills Development, Blue Ocean Strategy, e-Management, Outsourcing and Freelancing etc. DBI students will get access to use e-Library of DIU under the agreement signed.

DIU Friendship Tour to Malaysia and Indonesia

A friendship trip to Malaysia and Indonesia headed by Emeritus Professor of DIU Dr. Aminul Islam was held during 12-18 August 2013.

Other participants of the tour were Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, Dean of FSIT Professor Dr. S. M. Mahbub-ul-Haque Majumder, Controller of Examinations Professor Dr. Md. Golam Mowla Choudhury, Head of English Dr. Binoy Barman and English faculty member (part-time) Mr. Mohammed Shamsul Hoque. Wives of some of the Professors also accompanied.

Members of the team visited important places and sites in Malaysia and had an important meeting in Kuala Lumpur with Professor Dr. Abtar Kaur of the Open University of Malaysia and Dr. Ranjit Singh Malhi, Senior Cooperate Fellow of Asia e University over a dinner hosted by Professor Kaur and Dr. Malhi.

The discussion was about opening a new course with an aim to train teachers of English at primary and secondary levels in Bangladesh was held in the meeting. In a background of the dearth of trained English teachers at primary and secondary levels of Bangladesh, it was agreed that the course would be of high demand nationally and DIU would be the first university of Bangladesh to open such an important course. Professor Kaur promised all possible support from the Malaysian Open University while Dr. Malhi offered all supports for training staff and course design. The tour also included Bali in Indonesia.

Professors whom they met were members of the faculty of Medicine and Agriculture. They were very hospitable and cordial in their deliberations. They even proposed us to stay in their dormitories. We accepted their invitation and assured them that we will stay at your dormitory once we come again in future.

The trip was a memorable one.

A delegation from Daffodil International University (DIU) left for Japan today to attend the Social Business Forum in Asia 2013 as a part of Bangladeshi delegation lead by Professor Muhammad Yunus. The Asian Forum will take place from 27 to 29 July 2013 at three different cities Osaka, Kyoto and Fukuoka in Japan.

The DIU team will be the proud presenter of the Youth Session, where Mr Masud Ibn Rahman, Head Social Business Cell of DIU and Kazi Mesbah Ur Rahman, President, Social Business Students Forum and Student of BBA at DIU will deliver their presentation.Prof Dr. Muhammad Yunus will speak on Social Business Movement in Asia, its problems and prospects in this movement.

Most of the Asian Countries including Bangladesh will join this forum .All the Social Business stakeholders including academician, business people, political leaders, social activist and celebrities will join this prestigious platform of Social Business.

The organizer of this event is the Yunus & Shiiki Social Business Research Centre, Kyushu University Japan. Dr. Ashir Ahmed (Associate Professor, Khyushu University) Prof Masaharu Okada (Executive Director Grameen Creative Lab@Kyushu University) Prof Hiroto Yasuura (Head Yunus & Shiiki Social Business Research Centre) are the patrons of the event.

Daffodil International University delegation also attended the global Social Business Summit 2012 with Prof Yunus at Vienna Austria.

11 DIU students left for Korea to join Asian Summer Program (ASP) 2013

11 students of Daffodil International University (DIU) left for Korea to join a three week credit-based program offering innovative prospect of Asia titled Asian Summer Program (ASP) 2013 under Dongseo Asian Initiative Program supervised by Professor Dr. Yousuf M. Islam recently. In the first phase 4 students left for Korea on July 03, 2013. After the long tireless effort of the authority another seven students got their visa and finally they also flown to Korea.

The program named Asian Summer Program (ASP) is a three week credit-based program offering innovative prospect of Asia. It is designed to provide an International Training in Korea for the students, with the aim of building Cross-culture communication, Personal soft skill development, Confidence building, Career enhancement as well as mutual friendship among the participating countries. Students will have the chance to adjust these two courses which are going to obtain at Korea with their regular courses. There will be 350 students from 25 universities in 10 different countries in this program. The Program starts at July 8, 2013 at the very beautiful location of Busan, Korea. Participating students will experience a highly international environment, allowing them to learn directly about the diverse cultures of Asia. Students will have the chance to adjust these courses with their regular courses.

To become more attractive for foreign students and researchers and to increase its appeal as a world centre for excellence, DIU has joined its name in great initiative named “Dongseo Asian Initiative Program” taken by the Dongseo University, Korea.
