Daffodil International University Air Rover Unit participated at the 10th National Rover Moot and 5th National Community Development Camp (COMDECA)

 

Daffodil International University Air Rover Unit participated at the 10th National Rover Moot and 5th National Community Development Camp (COMDECA) which was held during 29th January to 04th February 2013 in Moynamotir Chor, DebiGonj, Panchagar.

The team consisted of 34 members form DIU Air Rover Unit, Girl in Rover Unit and Volunteer Team. Around eight thousand Rovers from all over Bangladesh participated in this national program.

It was really a gala gathering for Rovers where they shared and exchanged their views with each other and also gained experienced of Real life situation. Seven days program included challenges on Sound Body Sound Mind, Home Sweet Home, Scout Spirit, Good Turn to Villagers, School Programming, Nature & Life, Global Village, Hiking, Im-possible, Youth & Youth, Fan & Games, Camp Fire and Career Planning. Ms. Farhana Rahman Setu and Mr. Shaiful Islam, RSL of Daffodil International University Air Rover Unit lead the team.

Agreement signed between BBC Media Action and Daffodil International University

An Agreement between Daffodil International University and BBC Media Action was held on 21st March 2012 at DIU conference room. Ms. Catherine McCarthy, Head of Project (English in Action) BBC Media Action, Bangladesh and Dr. Md. Fokhray Hossain, Registrar, Daffodil International University signed the MOU on behalf of their respective organizations. Dr. Binoy Borman, Head, Department of English, Mr. Sayed Mizanur Rahman, Coordinator, Career Development Center, DIU, Mr. Anowar Habib Kazal, Asst. Director (Public Relations), DIU, Ms. Sheemtana Shameem, Project Assistant (English in Action) BBC Media Action, Bangladesh,  Mr.Ahmed  Shamim Ansary, Sr. Administrative Officer, DIU were also present at the signing ceremony.

Through this agreement BBC Media Action and Daffodil International University (DIU) will run 50 English Language Clubs in community level where DIU students will play main role as club leaders. It is mentionable that leaders will be selected from DIU students, who will be utilizing their personal laptops received from the university free of cost already. BBC will produce and supply necessary materials including books together with audio support as required. They will deliver also necessary trainings for trainers (ToT) of NGOs working together where DIU is the only partner from universities here in Bangladesh with BBC. The University will help and support BBC Media Actions Research & Learning Team in conducting any necessary research studies. Daffodil International University will also monitor the success of the English Club initiative and feedback to BBC Media Action. Expected outcome of this partnership is to work together for creating a synergy of English and Technology in reducing poverty.

Career Development Center (CDC) will coordinate the project from DIU and a notice by 29th March 2012 will be served from CDC for selecting effective Club leaders.

Later they made a courtesy visit to Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, Daffodil International University and exchanged views for mutual interest.

Launching of Library Software ( Koha-Integrated Library Management system) at Daffodil International University Library and Certificate Giving Ceremony was held today at Conference Room of the main Campus organized by DIU Library. Presided over by Prof. Dr. Golam Maowla Chowdhury, Proctor & Head, Department of ETE Prof. Dr. Aminul Islam, Emeritus Professor, DIU graced the occasion as the chief guest while Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman was present on the occasion as the special guest. The function was also addressed among others by Prof. Dr. S. M. Mahabub-Ul- Haque Majumdder, Controller of Examinations and Dean, FSIT, Dr. Md. Fokhray Hossain, Registrar and Mr. Milan Khan, Librarian.

National Conference on Teaching Learning at Tertiary Level in Bangladesh held at Daffodil International University

The speakers at the conference stressed that universities should determine the attributes that should be acquired by the graduates to thrive in the workplace and to function effectively in society.

They also urges the universities to adopt a holistic and integrated approach towards enhancing graduate employability; curriculum-integrated approach, stand alone soft skills methods, student involvement in work-related projects and extra curricular activities, work placements and guidance on getting job. Besides speakers also urged the students to come forward to uphold and develop the soft skills like high self-esteem, resilience, personal presentation, strong work ethic, communication skills, teamwork skills, analytical and problem solving skills and interpersonal skills.

Daffodil International University (DIU) organized National Conference on Teaching Learning at Tertiary Level in Bangladesh on December 30, 2011 at DIU Auditorium. Presided over by Prof. Dr. Yousuf M. Islam, Conference Chair and Convener, the keynote presentation on “Transforming Higher Education to meet the challenges of 21st century world” was made by Dr. Ranjit Singh Malhi, TQM Consultant-Sdn.Bhd, Malayasia. Professor Dr. Abtar Kaur, Faculty of Education, Open University Malayasia and Professor Dr. Shriram Raghunath, Director, Faculty Training Academy, B.S. Abdur Rahman University, India jointly made a presentation on MIDT.

DIU signs 2 MOUs with 2 International Universities

Daffodil International University (DIU) signs two bilateral Memorandum of Understandings (MOU) on International Partnership Programmes with two different International universities on 16th November 2011. The foreign universities are (1) VIT University, Vellore, Tamilnadu, India(2) Chao Shan College, China.

Mr. Md. Sabur Khan, honorable Chairman, DIU signed in both the MOUs on for DIU while Dr. G. Viswanathan, Chancellor, VIT University, India & Mr. Zhuang Mingying, Vice President, Chaoshan College, Puning, China signed the MOUs on for VIT University & Chaoshan College, China respectively. Both the MOUs were signed in presence of Mr. M.M. Rajendran, Former Governor, Orissa and Heads of 73 Universities from 23 different countries of Asian region in the 10th Asian University Presidents Forum (AUPF), held from 14-16th November, 2011 at Tamil Nadu, India.
These two 5 years separate bilateral agreements aims and form of co-operation on:

DIU Attends 10th AUPF-2011

We are immensely delighted to share that Daffodil International University (DIU) participated 10th Asian University Presidents’ Forum (AUPF) 2011, held at the VIT University, Vellore, India (www.vit.ac.inon November 14 to 16, 2011. DIU presented its views on the development of higher education in our country, the experiences of the university in developing undergraduate and post graduate degrees and the university’s role in meeting the country’s human resource needs.

The 3-days program was inaugurated by Mr. M.M. Rajendran, Former Governor, Orissa while the Valedictory speech was delivered by Mr. K. Rosaiah, Governor, Tamil Nadu. Among other, as many as Heads of 73 Universities from 23 different countries of Asian region took part. The Asian University Presidents Forum (AUPF) is a result of the cooperation among Asian non-governmental universities, which initially evolved from the Non-governmental Collaborative Association of Presidents of Chinese and Thai Institutions of Higher Learning set up at Srinakharinwirot University, Thailand, in 2002. But later, the Association evolved to include Universities from other Asian countries as well. The next, 11th AUPF (2012) will be hosted by Dongseo University, South Korea.

DIU is the only university, which represented Bangladesh on that grand occasion, followed by the invitation from the host, VIT University, Vellore, India. Mr. Md. Sabur Khan, honorable Chairman, BoT, represented DIU (and Bangladesh as well), took active

part in the whole program, visited the entire area, presented his paper, attended question-answering session, signed a couple of MOUs on behalf of DIU and planted tree.

Attending this occasion will be considered as a remarkable milestone of the entire history of DIU.

Students of Journalism and Mass Communication Department visited Channel i

The students of Journalism and Mass Communication with Mrs. Sakila Jesmin, Planning Editor, Channel i in a photo session at Channel i Studio.

The students of 6th Batch of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Daffodil International University visited Channel i on August 06, 2011  as a part of their academic courses on “Broadcast Journalism” to have practical experience on how a news reaches to mass people. The team was led by Mrs. Ameena Islam, Head, Department of JMC & Course teacher and accompanied by Mr. Md. Anowar Habib Kazal, Sr. Public Relations Officer. There they hold a discussion with Mrs. Sakila Jesmin, Planning Editor of Channel i regarding news gathering an writing, compilation and editing . She elaborately discussed about the different process and procedures and the activities followed & maintained in step by step during preparing news and how to on air it. The students had got a great taste of practical experiences of real life broadcasting situation and learned a lot which will help them in professional life.

Later they observed practical live presentation of that day’s Channel i Sheershaw News at 1 PM live from Studio and discussed with Mr. Shanto Mahmud, Executive Producer (News Presentation). He demonstrated the on air process of news  and how it is transmitted. The students enjoyed the visit and acquired vast knowledge on “Broadcast Journalism”.

DIU suits Champion in National Debate Championship -2011

Daffodil International University Debating Club (DIUDC) became Champion at the Grand final of the National Debate Championship 2011 organized by the Jahangirnagar University Debate Organization in association with Ministry of Freedom Fighters, Peoples Republic of Bangladesh. DIUDC beat Dhaka University Debating Society in the Grand Final.

Before that they beat Jahangirnagar University Debate Organization in the semi-final match in their home ground. DIUDC faced Dhaka University Debating Society in the Grand Final held at Muktomoncho of Jahangirnagar University on 27th March 2011 at 6.00 pm in the evening.  Professor Nazrul Islam, Chairman, University Grants Commission handed over the Champions Trophy as the chief guest to the members of the DIU Debating Club. Debate teams from as many as 28 reputed Public and Private Universities from around the country participated in the tournament.

This has set a magnificent milestone for DIU Debating Club as well as for the Daffodil International University. The university salutes the heroes of the winning team.
