Eminent nutritionist Ms. Tamanna Chowdhury who is also the Principal Dietitian at Apollo Hospital in Dhaka delivering her keynote speech at the seminar on ‘Perspectives in Clinical Nutrition: Navigating frontiers of career and role of graduates of nutrition and food engineering at hospital settings in Bangladesh’

A seminar on ‘Perspectives in Clinical Nutrition: Navigating frontiers of career and role of graduates of nutrition and food engineering at hospital settings in Bangladesh’ organized by Nutrition and Food Engineering Department of Daffodil International University was held on 25th July 2018 at 71 Milonayoton of the university. Professor Dr. Ahmad Ismail Mustafa, Dean, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences was present at the seminar as Chief Guest while Dr.Md. Bellal Hossain, Head, Department of NFE, Daffodil International University was present as Special Guest. The main keynote speaker of the program was eminent nutritionist Ms. Tamanna Chowdhury who is also the Principal Dietitian at Apollo Hospital in Dhaka.  The seminar was convened and conducted by Ms. Tasmia Tasnim, Lecturer at Department of NFE.
Addressing as Chief Guest Dr. Ahmad Ismail Mustafahighlighted, that more and more number of hospitals are emerging in Bangladesh and many of them are incorporating dietetics department which thus provides a lucrative opportunity for NFE graduates to pursue a career as a clinical dietician. Ms. Tamanna Chowdhury, who was the keynote speaker delved deeper into the subject by unfolding the principles and practicalities behind proper nutrition care practice in hospitals. She resonated the fact that Inpatient clinical dietitians at hospitals play a vital role in the healthcare team by providing nutritional care to patients in various disease states and conditions. Compromised nutrition in a hospital setting can lead to slow healing and recovery and may extend hospital stays. Ms. Tamanna emphasized in her speech how NFE graduates should develop themselves in a manner so they are able to work symbiotically with physicians and other healthcare professionals to coordinate medical and nutritional needs of patients admitted for critical care in hospitals, and make recommendations as per. She added that after achieving a BSc certificate, students of nutrition and food engineering can go on to achieve additional training and certification to start their journey in this emerging career path. The program ended with a vote of thanks from special guest Dr. BellalHossain who highlighted in his speech that apart from food industries, NFE graduates should take advantage of prospects in clinical sector and carve a niche for themselves.
