The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award at Daffodil International University” launched today.

“The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award at Daffodil International University” launched today on November 28, 2013 at DIU Auditorium. His Excellency Robert Winnigton Gibson, CMG, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, graced the launching ceremony as Chief Guest. Mr. Mirza Salman Ispahani, Chairman, Board of Trustees, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Foundation, Bangladesh attended the programme as Guest of Honor. Mr. Md. Sabur Khan, President, Dhaka Camber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) & Chairman, Board of Trustees, Daffodil International University were present as Special Guest.

Presided over by Prof. Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor,Daffodil International University, the function was addressed by Mr. Rizwan Bin Farouq, Chairman of Executive Committee, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Foundation, Bangladesh, Professor Dr. Khondaker Mohammod Shariful Huda,
National Director, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Foundation, Bangladesh and Mr. Syed Mizanur Rahman, Director, (Students’ Affairs), Daffodil International University. Addressing as the chief guest Robert Winnington Gibson, CMG said, Since its inception in 1956 the Duke of Edinburgh Awards has been dedicated for young people and has been promoting a spirit of personal development & challenging activities for 56 years, helping many to prepare for the challenges of today’s world. To date the award scheme has helped over 8 million people internationally to achieve their personal best in 132 counties.

He also said that, the Duke of Edinburgh Awards were initiated in Bangladesh just over four years ago and in Bangladesh that figure is 5000, from 29 institutions. Among them are over 60 Gold Awards, with others achieving Silver and Bronze.

Mr. Md. Sabur Khan said, to targeting or achieving the awards students should take lots of mental or physical preparation to carry the challenge and fit them properly specially in technologically, because, now a day’s technology is giving lot of benefits to reach to the whole world. From the inception of the university, we are trying our level best to utilize the technology as a result our students, faculties as well as officials are habituated with technology, he added. He urged the students to be a potential ICT skilled graduate to contribute to the nation. It is envisaged that DIU graduates can stand out by competing with other graduates both nationally and globally with their skill that they have acquire from this university which would boost up their career.
The initiative of The Duke of Edinburgh Award will benefit the whole student’s community of Bangladesh, he added.

6th Academic Council Meeting of Daffodil International University held

6th Academic Council Meeting of Daffodil International University (Under purview of the private University Act-2010) was held on November 30, 2013 at the Board Room of the University. Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, Daffodil International University presided over the meeting.

Members of the Academic Council of Daffodil International University Prof. Dr. Sharif Enamul Kabir, Member, Public Service Commission, Prof. Dr. M. Kabir, Former Teacher of the department of Statistics, Jahangirnagar University, Prof. Dr. M. Mizanur Rahman, Treasurer, Prof. Dr. S. M Mahabub-ul Haque Majumder, Dean, FSIT, Prof. Dr. Golam Rahman, Dean, FHSS, Professor Dr. Md. Zakir Hossain, Director (Studies), Prof. Dr. Engr. A.K.M. Fazlul Haque, Registrar, Dr. Mostafa Kamal, Director (Permanent Campus), Professor Dr. A. N. M. Jahangir Kabir, Academic Director (Uttara), Prof. Dr. Golam Maowla Choudhury, Controller of Examinations, Mr. Mohammed Emran Hossain and all Head of the Departments were resent in the Academic Council Meeting.

Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman presented a brief on the overall Academic activities of the university and deans of faculties, Registrar, Controller of Examinations and other senior officers represented relevant information and proposals in the meeting.
The members of Academic Council praised the continuous development and success of Daffodil International University and expressed to extend their cooperation to uphold this progress in coming days.
