Collaboration with National Central University (NCU)

DIU started an active collaboration with National Central University (NCU) Taiwan  through a Memorandum of Understanding between both universities. Dr. Chien-wen Mark Shen, Director of YSBC & Associate Professor of Department of Business Administration, National Central University Taiwan and Prof. Dr. S. M. Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder, Acting Vice-Chancellor of Daffodil International University (DIU) signed the agreement on behalf of the respected University recently at DIU premises. After the signing ceremony, Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, BoT of DIU presented him a Token of Appreciation for his positive initiative. Dr. Chien-wen conducted a seminar for the graduating students and faculty members of DIU to pursue their Ph.D Degree under scholarships in NCU, Taiwan from 2019.

DIU is hosting Youth4SDG Asia Leadership Program 2018

Daffodil International University (DIU) Bangladesh is now hosting Youth4SDG Asia Leadership Program 2018 from 8 to 16 August 2018 organized by Youthink Center China ️where around 15 students from different grades of China are attending. Under this program, the young leaders are working to create the social business plan after surveying different villages of Bangladesh under case study. They visited Kakabo village of Ashulia to interact with the villagers and find out their problems which can be solved using the power of business. . To get hands-on experience about doing social business using technology, they visited Grameen-Intel Social Business Ltd, business areas, local community etc.

After successful field visits, they had sessions on Social Business model Canvas conducted by DIU faculty members. DIU is now a hub of international events in Bangladesh considering expected all the excellent supports locally with the vast beautiful green campus.

DIU students attended GSLP 2018, South Korea

Three students of DIU Afsana Jerin Shayery, student of Department of English, Md. Sajib Hossain, student of Department of Computer Science And Engineering & Md Feroz Ahmed student of Department of Business Administration are now attending the Global Student Leadership Program 2018 (GSLP) hosted annually by Daegu Health College (DHC), South Korea from 9 to 17 August, 2018. The team of DIU represented DIU in the program with active participation in different cross-cultural activities like archery competition, Hanbok presentation, non-smoking campaign session, Traditional Korean Cooking Contest, Learning K-POP Dance etc.

Apart from this, they had the field trip to Busan (Haeundae), local markets, Korean traditional experience at a Confucian school etc. Every year DHC arrange this leadership program to welcome students from partner universities to learn and share the cross-border knowledge to broaden global network with leadership skill.

DIU student at Engineering Summer Program in Russia

Ibnal Moin Ahmed, Student of Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of DIU attended the Summer School Program on Electrical Engineering at Peter the Great St.Petersburg Polytechnic University in Russia from 23 July to 5 August 2018. Around 200 students from more than 20 different countries took part in this year summer school on Engineering. He attended in an intensive academic program with lectures, company visits (CHP / NPP, industrial companies) and workshops from Russian and International experts. Apart from this, the program includes the tour to the Hermitage, boat trip to rivers and channels Music festival; Trip to Peterhof along with Russian language & culture class, etc.

Report on “Special Session on the Visible Changes Observed after Introducing S.A. Process Activities in DIU”

 

A meeting was held with the Conveners of the SA Committee and Head of the Departments at Daffodil International University on 16th August 2018 focusing mainly on the Visible changes observed after introducing S.A. Process Activities. The meeting was highly focused on sharing the observation and improvement of the departments after introducing S.A. Process Activities. The meeting was led by Professor Dr. Ahmad Ismail Mustafa, Dean, Faculty of Allied Health Science and convener of the review committee on the proposal of IQAC Cell of DIU.

The speakers had put emphasized on the following things:
• Emphasize on increasing the number of students.
• Make policy to involve students in the research activities under the faculty members. Rewards can be given for the activities.
• Faculty members should not depend on DIU for fund regarding research, they should rather go looking for funds from outside.
• Continuous Development of the departments should be maintained.
• Monitoring should be ensured as it is the most efficient method of evaluation.
• Departments should be specific about their progress.
• Library should be decentralized to reach highest number of students.
• Survey on the questions before the exam.
• Bring change on admission policy to increase the number of quality students along with the change in foundation class emphasizing on developing basic skills of the students through the foundation courses & avoid repetition of the courses.

Emphasize on Credit transfer to the other university.
 Create a google site for the program.
 IQAC should play a role to monitor the implementation of the mission/vision of the departments.

Assam University signs MoU with Dhaka’s Daffodil International University

Assam University, Silchar took another step in advancing its collaboration with other universities worldwide when it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a leading private university in Dhaka, the Daffodil International University, on Thursday evening.

The MoU was signed in Dhaka in presence of Assam University, Silchar’s Vice Chancellor, Dr Dilip Chandra Nath and Pro Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University, Prof SM Mehbub Ul Haque Mazumder.

Daffodil International University, a private institution with 30,000 students, has collaborations with many other universities all across the globe.

The signing of MoU by Assam University, Silchar with Daffodil International University will help in teacher exchange and student exchange programmes, internship programme, joint conferences and above all, exchanging of ideas and thoughts in the field of research, felt Vice Chancellor of Assam University, Silchar, Dr Dilip Chandra Nath.

It may be mentioned that after taking charge as by Dr Dilip Chandra Nath as Vice Chancellor of Assam University, Silchar two years back, signing of MoUs with other universities outside India has taken a quantum leap for advancements in teaching as well as research.

MoU has also been signed with Japan’s two universities, Gifu University and Shizuoka University, Thailand’s Mahachulalongornraja Vidyalaya University in Bangkok, Indonesia’s University of Indonesia and Bangladesh’s Shahjalal University of Science and Tecnology, situated at Sylhet, in the past two years.

Dr Dilip Chandra Nath after signing this MoU with Daffodil International University based at Dhaka, while expressing satisfaction, said, “Collaborating with these top notch universities can take Assam University, Silchar in the right direction. Times have changed, and so also the need of the hour is to share thoughts and ideas which can be beneficial for students as well as teachers of both sides.”

He added, “Students and researchers of our universities can go there and garner knowledge and learn new things, likewise, their counterparts too from those universities can come here and get enlightened.”

Training of Teachers for 21st Century

Prof. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, PhD, Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University along with the participants of five-day long training course for the teachers organized by Department of General Educational Development (GED) of Daffodil international University 

Considering unemployed educated population in the country, Daffodil International University is very keen to develop syllabus and faculty members to move forward with objective to create 21st century competent graduates. A five-day long training for the teachers organized by Department of General Educational Development (GED) of Daffodil international University (DIU) ended on August 14, 2018 at Banquet Hall of the university.
Eighty (80) teachers from the department of GED and English participated in the training session. Honorable Vice Chancellor of DIU, Prof. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, PhD handed over the certificates to the participants at the closing session.
The training session was designed focusing on the need of the teachers to develop themselves as better educator for today and tomorrow through developing their self-esteem, productive skill, research knowledge and use of technology in teaching with diversified cognitive skills. Teachers were disconnected from their mobile phones to connect with each other during the session.
After identifying the need of the teachers the organizers invited their internal resource persons such as Professor Dr. S.M. Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder, Dean, FSIT and Pro-VC, DIU, Professor Dr. Ahmad Ismail Mustafa, Dean, FAHS, Professor A. M.M. Hamidur Rahman, Dean, FHSS, Mr. Mohammed Shamsul Hoque, Associate Professor, English, IT Experts Mr. Khondker Mohammad Shah-Al-Mamun and Mr. Umam Mustain and some other faculty members of the university.
The total duration of the training was 20 hours. The training covered the following training sessions: 1. Fundamentals of teaching, 2. Use of technology in teaching, 3. Self-esteem development and productive skills in teaching and 4. Research and development in teaching.
The training sessions were ended on a successful note and is considered to be an effective program.

IQAC of DIU submits the Sub-Project Completion Report (PCR) to QAU of UGC of Bangladesh

Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Daffodil International Universityhas submitted the Sub-Project Completion Report (PCR), today on 14 August, 2018 to Professor Dr. Sanjoy Kumar Adhikary, Head, Quality Assurance Unit (QAU), University Grants Commission of Bangladesh. It is worthwhile to mention that DIU has successfully completed the sub-project, ‘Establishment of IQAC at Daffodil International University (DIU)’ within the completion deadline, 30 June, 2018. This sub-project was started on 1 July, 2015.During the project period, 12 departments, under this holistic initiative have successfully completed the Self-Assessment (SA) process activities and formulated the implementation plan on post self-assessment improvement plan. Those departments are at implementation phases now and IQAC, DIU (as an integral part of DIU) conducts the monitoring and evaluation mechanism, properly.

FazlulHaque, Director, IQAC, DIU submitted the Sub-Project Completion Report to Professor Dr. Sanjoy Kumar Adhikary, Head, Quality Assurance Unit (QAU), University Grants Commission of Bangladesh while Professor Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Former Head, QAU, UGC of Bangladesh was present. Besides, Dr. Sk. Abdul Kader Arafin, Additional Director, IQAC, DIU; Mr. Nafees Imtiaz Islam, Senior Assistant Director and Mr. Kamanashis Kundu, Accounts Officer, IQAC, DIU were also present, while submitting the document.

Professor Dr. Sanjoy Kumar Adhikary, Head, QAU,UGC of Bangladesh, praises the overall activities of IQAC of Daffodil International University, for completing the sub-project, and emphasizes the continuation of IQAC, DIU inimplementing the post self-assessment improvement plan by concerned SA Departments, which plays the vital role in ensuring quality education in higher education institute..

Discussion Meeting on National Mourning Day-2018 held at Daffodil International University

Mr. Waliur Rahman, Former Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and Chairman of Bangladesh Heritage Foundation is  addressing the discussion meeting on 43rd  martyre-dom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day-2018 held at Daffodil International University.  

Daffodil International University (DIU) paid glowing tributes to the country’s founding president and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman marking his 43rd  martyr-dom anniversary and National Mourning Day with due respect recalling the August 15, 1975 carnage, when Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was killed along with most of his family members.  To mark the occasion a discussion meeting followed by a prayer offered for eternal peace of Bangabandhu and his family members, who embraced martyr-dom on August 15, 1975 was offered today on August 14, 2018 seeking eternal peace of the departed souls at the 71 Milonayoton Auditorium of Daffodil International University.

Ambassador Waliur Rahman, Former Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was present as the chief guest in the discussion session. Prof Dr. Yousuf  M. Islam, Vice Chancellor, Daffodil International University presided over the function. The function was also addressed by Prof. Dr. S. M. Mahabub-Ul –Haque Majumder, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Mr. Hamidul Haque Khan, Treasurer of Daffodil International University also spoke on the occasion. . Mr. Syed Mizanur Rahman Raju, Director of Student Affairs conducted the program and Maolana Habibut Rahman offered munajat in the program.

While addressing as the Chief Guest Former Ambassador and Founder Chairman of Bangladesh Heritage Foundation Mr. Waliur Rahman said that it would be the proper way to show respect upon Bangabandhu is to uphold the Bangabandhu’s ideology by heart and do work accordingly and also spread the spirit of Bangabandhu’s ideology among the new generation. The ideology of Bangabandhu is not fully executed, we will have to take initiative for executing Bangabandhu’s ideology if we want to show due respect to him, he added.
Mr. Waliur Rahman said to the new generation that we got freedom from Pakistan which  is now a world famous terrorist country. The total reserve of Pakistan is now only 16 billion dollar while the reserve of Bangladesh is now 23 billion dollar. The export revenue of Pakistan is 20 billion, on the other hand, the export revenue of Bangladesh is 45 billion dollar. These statistics indicates that we are living better from Pakistan. Already we entered into the list of developing country. If Bangabandhu alive, we would reach developed country too earlier.
Mr. Waliur Rahman said present government has executed punishment of 6 Bangabandhu’s killer and rest 4 is under process.

He urged the young generation to be resuscitated with the spirit of Liberation War and engage themselves to the task of materializing Bangabondhu’s dream of building a Golden Bengal turning into strength the grief of the great loss of the Father of the Nation.

The function was attended by all the Head of the Departments and Deans of different Faculties. A Large number of Faculty members, Officers, employees and students were present on the occasion.

DIU faculty achieves Excellent Paper Award in ISESS 2018

DIU Faculty members along with Professor Dr. Yousuf M Islam, Vice Chancellor and Prof. Rozhan, the convener of the conference pose for a photograph after receiving the certificates at the 2nd International Summit on Employability and Soft Skills (ISESS2018) held in Malaysia. 

The closing and prize giving Ceremony of the 2nd International Summit on Employability and Soft Skills (ISESS2018)  was held on August 7, 2018 at Avenue Garden Hotel, Bangi, Malaysia. All the papers of DIU employee were appreciated while DIU faculty member Ms. Nahian Fyrose Fahim, Lecturer, Department of Pharmacy was awarded with Excellent Paper award.
DIU delegates presented 5 papers on different topics in the conference, these are as follows:
1. Perception of Students regarding Soft Skills and Hard Skills of the most Influential Teachers in their lives was presented by Ms. Liza Sharmin, Associate Professor, Department of English.
2. Students’ Perspective on the Effective Use of Moodle in Enhancing their Soft Skills  presented by Ms. Fatema Begum, Assistant Professor, Department of English,
3. Classroom Methodology to Inculcate Thinking Skills, Ms. Sadia Zafrin Lia & Shifat Amreen, Lecturer, Department of English.
4. A Scenario of Higher Education and Employability: Bangladesh Context, Ms. Nahian Fyrose Fahim, Lecturer, Department of Pharmacy.
5. Inculcating Soft Skills in Tertiary Level Students, Mr. Umam Mustain & Shekh Moniruzzaman, Administrative Employees.
All presenters got certificate and all papers were very much appreciated by the convener of the Conference and other invited guests. The selected papers would be published in the renowned journal.
